Quick fuel line question

Hi! I have a 1987 Force 85hp. I am planning on replacing the line from the internal tank to the outboard and install a water separating filter. Currently, the fuel line that is on the boat is only 1/4 inch (which seems really small to me for this motor but that is what was on it when I bought is a few years ago). I was planning on replacing it with a 3/8 inch line. Will this have any affect on the running of the motor (I ran it on a portable tank to tune it and it seemed to run way better with the 3/8 line so I think it should be an improvement). Thanks!

Re: Quick fuel line question

I replaced mine from end to end with 3/8" and added a filter just before the fuel pump.

Certainly cannot hurt :)

Re: Quick fuel line question

My boat has twins and it came with 1/4in hoses. No problem with it.By all means put in a water/fuel seperating filter.
If you think it runs better on a bigger hose. Then I'd look at what's going on to make it run different.
The boat manufacturer put that hose on thousands of boats.Ethanol is messing with old hoses and some plastic.J

Re: Quick fuel line question

My 87 force has: 3/8" from the dual 12gal tanks... to the two way valve... to the seperator... to the filter.. to the primer bulb where it changes from 3/8" to 1/4", then 1/4" into the motor. Was like that when I bought it... prob not ideal, but it runs fine. I do plan on finding a 3/8" piece for the outboard in order to make it all 3/8".
