QUICK, Gotta Know............

Ok, got this possible deal on another outboard. I'm replacing 125hp Force on a 89 Bayliner Cuddy 19.5' with a 2002 Mercury 90hp 4 stroke.
Questions;

Will the 90 push my Bayliner just as good as the Force 125? I don't want to be disappointed with under-power. I mostly just cruise, pull a tube occasionally, run around about 25mph.

The 90hp weighs about 100lbs (399lbs according to web) more than the 125 Force (300lbs). Will this be a big issue as far as stern weight? Will I even notice the extra 100lbs?

Should I stick with the HP rating on the boat (125 MAX)?

Any opinions please! I hope to make the deal tomorrow before it's sold. (Yes, I'm probably paying too much but tired of looking for that "sweet deal")

90 is seems low for a 19.5 Bliner, but it is within the 70% rule. I would prefer it for several reasons over the 125 Force. Cleaner, quieter, much, much more economical and not banned on current or future "no carbed 2 strokes" waters.

It is a non-repair question about 2 different outboards. It is now in the outboard non-repair forum.

You'll be losing 35hp and it's gonna show.
Just remember to get the right prop.
A 90 will work just not as good.
A lot better on gas.
Change it and install the prop and go for a ride.
Then take the info you have and ask on the prop forum.
What's the wide open throttle,RPM's???
And what pitch prop do you have??

Probably to late to answer here, but I hope that you know the Force on that boat..(I have a 88/125 Cuddy), HAS A 25 INCH LONG SHAFT! Not 20 inch. If what you are buying is a 20 inch shaft (extremely normal) you are in for a big, expensive surprise. Prop will be blocked by the very deep v-hull, which is 25 inches bottom v, to transom top.

Not too late. You are exactly right. The place I "was" getting the motor assured me it took a 20" shaft. I will call them today. (I measured the transom yesterday and found it 25")

Thank you all.
