Anybody know fer sure if a '84-85 3.0 vintage starter'll fit same engine '74? It looks like the gear is the same, but the starter motor case is smaller and has only 2 bolts for mounting it. I'm thinking if it does interchange i'd make a rear bracket for it.

Ayuh,.......

Chevy(which the 3.0l Is) Starters only come in 2 basic flavors,....

The Staggered bolt pattern(for the 14" flywheel),+ the Straight across bolt pattern(for the 12" flywheel).......

If the 2 Bolt Holes in the starter mounting housing are the Same,..... They'll fit......

Thanks bondo it does fit the bolt holes, I guess because the starter is much lighter there is no need for a third rear attachment bolt.
