quick question about serial #s

Some merc serial #s have 7 didget #s, and some have 8. Does the 7 didget #s represent later models, like 80 something and below, and the 8 didget #s mean newer models?<br /> If so, someone give me details.

Sorry.. Don't know what you mean "Small" <br />The shortcut is to a website showing S/N v Year.<br />If your browser is struggling to view it.. Play with the settings, or go "Print picture" I have put it up quite a few times with no complaints...
