My 04' 3.0 has the two quick disconnet/drain hoses to empty out the engine of the coolant water. Do these two hoses effectively drain the block and manifold areas and if not what else do I have to drain and do I still need to place antifreeze in the engine after completely draining out the quick disconnect hoses. I'm still contemplating a dry storage but I'm still under warranty. Thanks for any info.

sometimes rust and scale will plug the drains. it may be under warrenty but warrenty WILL NOT cover freeze damage. thats why AFTER draining I run 5 gallons or so of non toxic AF like ban frost 2000 into the engine. eliminates any trapped water that may cause damage. that and the corrosion inhibitors aid in keeping rust down.

Thanks, I do know the warranty won't cover any damage, I was just wondering if I did not "winterize" with antifreeze, could Mercruiser at some later date deny me a claim for whatever the situation because I did not follow the steps in "Winterizing". I can see it know and it would be my luck. "Well, we're denying your warranty claim of the piston blowing up in the middle of June because back last winter, you don't have a record of "winterizing" your boat". Actually, I justed wanted to know if those quick disconnect hoses drained ALL the water out. I probably should just forget it and run the antifreeze through it. Thanks for the reply.

You will find both opinions here.Probably more dry than wet.I swear by af throughout the motor and manifolds for winterizing. In your case being under warranty,I would do exactly as your owners manual states and even consider having your dealer do it .Should you ever have a warranty claim, the dealer WILL treat you better if you are a service customer as well and not just a warranty customer.Charlie

Looks like that's what i'm going to do. A hundred bucks at the dealer isn't bad knowing that if something happens, it's going to be on them. Thanks.

running the AF mix wont do anygood if you dont drain the block prior to running the AF mix. if your theoreticle hole in the piston was not caused by a freeze crack or other problem outside of mercruisers control it wont matter if it was winterized or not. a burned piston or valve from a clogged carb is not warrenty either.

I have an 04 3.0 liter that I winterized dry the

last 2 years. If you are unsure if the block and

manifold are completely drained you can remove

the quick release hoses at the block/manifold end

and use a piece of wire to free any obstruction.

My dealer winterizes dry as well.
