I have a Merc 165 IL6. The boat has port and starboard vents with hoses into the bilge for air/ventilation. One vent is installed facing forward and one facing back. The one facing forward often gets water in it from spray. I was going to flip it around but someone told me that was correct and I should not flip it. Can anyone enlighten me on this??

Re: Quick Question

the reason for having one forward and one backwards is, you never know what direction the wind will be blowing, and if you flip both of them to face backwards, when you are motoring in forward gear, you will not be getting clean are in you intake, facing forward allows for clean air movement within you engine compartment

Re: Quick Question

One vent faces forward for air intake into the motor compartment to aid in vapor extraction while underway. The other side creates a vacuum pull allowing a larger volume of air to be pulled in. The blower should be connected to the trailing side to extract fumes when starting up and setting a while

Re: Quick Question

One forward and one aft keeps the air circulating thru the bilge. Keeps the gas or other fumes out of the bilge.

Re: Quick Question

Well, I have only [1] hose as part of bilge air blower. There?s no other hose hanging around. So what I do instead is to open the battery hatch, a 10?x10" hatch, to keep fresh air flowing inside. This is the port side. If I am just by myself, I also keep the starboard hatch open. Maybe it makes a difference.
