What kind of fluid do I use in my Power Trim system? Right now it's full of a brown milky substance that cannot be right... (Boat hasn't run in about 1.5 years...) To drain and purge it, do I diconnect the lines at the actuators and run until dry, re-fill with fresh, and then do again? Also, when I run the pump, I get a small amount of fluid out of a weep hole in the reservor cap. Is this normal? Thanks.

Re: Quick Trim Question

Re-reading my post, I realized I left a few details out... 94 Sea Ray with Alpha One outdrive, not sure what kind of pump but the hydraulic pistons say "Power Trim XD" on the side. Also, when I try and lower it, it goes REAL slow - up is good, but down takes forever. I have a feeling a fluid change will fix this, but if not, what else can cause it? Thanks.

Re: Quick Trim Question

Bottom---I flushed the system on a former boat exactly as you describe. You may have to run up and down several times to bleed out any air in the lines or cylinders. Remember to only fill the reservoir in the down position----fluid returns from cylinders to reservoir. I don't think you should be getting fluid coming out when you run the trim---might be overfilled.

Seals in your trim cylinders might be dried up if it has not been run for that time period.

Re: Quick Trim Question

Thanks for the info... the trim seems to be working better now - I sprayed some WD-40 on the piston rods and it seems to have helped a lot.
