hi folks, hope everyone is havein happy holidays.
i've been usein quikbooks pro (for window 95) for managing my small business. it works real well. even though intuit (mfg of quikbooks) said it wouldn't work with my newer computers xp. anyways. i am thinkin of gettin the new quikbooks pro for xp. 2 reasons mostly. 1 is, the file is gettin pretty big and takes a bit to backup. it's be nice if it only backed up the new info i enter today and kept what was already backed up. as opposed to backin the whole thing up, everytime. i back up to cd and everynow and then a flash drive. 2 is, that i'm wonderin if the newer version has any more user friendly type options to it. i guess my main disappointment in what i got is the invintory. i can only retrieve it from reminders. and i can't research the item from there. ie what it is. or i can go to inventory and see the whole bloody list itemized out. which is hard to reorder from i think.
any one think the newer version addresses these two issues that i don't like? it's a pretty pricey product so don't want to waste my bread if it aint got anything hipper than what i got.
if i do switch, guess i'd like to do that on jan. 1 for tax prep ease the followin year...

Can't comment on the newer versions but I do know that your version can get so old that your accountant won't be able to read you accountants copy.

As far as backing it up, get an external USB 2.0 drive and just copy and paste the QBW file to the external drive. It takes a matter of seconds.

thanks man, that is true. had that happen last year, my bookeeper couldn't read the files. even provided him with the cd. he has me fill out a form that has the pertenat info on it for him to do me up though. i got the facts to back it up if needed + phsical paper trail. it'd be nice if the bookeeper could see the books though i reckon...thanks for the new idea though, that may actually play into my decision......

i do, do the usb 2.0 thing. to a flash drive. it is faster to be sure. but i just don't get it. why back up old info a bunch of times, flash drive or cd. i'm only addin a few credits and debits at one perticular time...+ there must be something better for trackin inventory. any other progams that somebody else likes? that suits them? something the bookeeper can read?
don't know without lookin as to how many items i got. maybe a thousand or so.......

Zig, find someone knowledgeable with Quickbooks. You can archive your older data and save it on a CD. You just pick a cutoff date, say 2 or 3 years back and it'll get the old stuff out of your current data backups. You can probably figure out how to do it yourself, looking in 'help'.

If you want to keep the cost down, keep an eye on ebay for a more current version of QB Pro. Maybe 2003-4 or 5. That'll keep you current enough for your accountant to read his copies.

Just be sure that you not only get the Key Code but get the Original Registration number as well.
