Quickclean for Optimax Yes or No?

I drove 20 miles to the Mercury dealer to buy quicklean to use in my 2000 Optimax 150. The dealer said Mercury does not recommend using quickclean in the Optimax, in fact he said you should never use quickclean in an Optimax because it raises the octane which is not good for an Optimax.WTF! Any comments are appreciated.

His reasoning sounds faulty. Higher octane gasoline won't hurt a motor. They may not need it, so it won't help.

Quickcleen is a decarbonizer, right? I would not think that an Optimax would build up carbon very quickly, but I wouldn't think it would hurt it either.

The person I spoke with at the dealer found out he had misinterpreted the notice from Mercury that was warning about using too much Quickleen which would be harmful. Too much of a good thing I quess.

Currently my Optimax is running very well and I hope to keep it that way. Isn't that the purpose of using Quickleen? It is also my understanding that the way an Optimax operates using less fuel producing low emmisions this is even more important.

gee, I would think the opposite. Optimax does a more complete burning of the gasoline. I would think it would run cleaner, and have less carbon buildup.

Re: Quickclean for Optimax Yes or No?

Thats a good point Chris. Here is what the Mercury Bullitin says:

Today’s OptiMax engine control systems allow only minute quantities of air and fuel to reach
the combustion chamber in order to produce minimal emissions. But, these diminutive
amounts of air and fuel are easily obstructed by fuel injector, direct injector and combustion
chamber deposits. Due to the inconsistent fuel quality in some areas, excessive fuel system
and combustion chamber deposits are on the rise. These deposits cause many driveability
problems that range from hesitation, rough idle, spark plug fouling, to detonation problems.
This performance characteristic can be prevented through fuel system maintenance.

I quess key word is "Inconsistent Fuel quality"? So I wonder if you would accomplish the same results by just using high quality gas that contains fuel system cleaners? Using Quickleen ends up costing about $.16 per gallon of gas. Using a higher grade/quality gas costs ??? Probably the same or a bit more.

Maybe that is hype to sell more QuickCleen? I cannot imagine you need to add it to every gallon of fuel. Maybe once a year do a seafoam treatment and call it a draw?

Run the Quickleen as one bottle treat 70 gallons of fuel and run it every 3rd tank to keep injectors clean..
