Re: Quickie for Dhadley

Okay as with most things it turned out to be operator error. Sometimes I feel like such a dumsh!t. When I would use the brass shim I had a space between the housing and the prop that would pull air. I guess I was in a hurry and didn't see the plastic rings in the bottom of the box that take up that space and seat it against the housing. Once again, thanks to all.

Beautiful! Engine turns between 4800-4900. Jumps up on plane. Can actually trim engine in 2 holes and smart tabs have a chance to work. Water was choppy as storms were in the area but with 2 of us in there it performed nicely. Leaving next tues eve for 4 days of striper/white bass fishing. Bring 'em on.

Excellent! As Dhadley said, we really, really need to know if you can beat your brother's boat now. Bet you can.

Re: Quickie for Dhadley

I'll find out next Wednesday when we meet for the fishing trip. He called today and after seeing how worn my old prop was he compared his old one to his spare. He is now putting his spare on to see how it does. His old one was an 11x11 and his spare is 10.5x11. He is in central Indiana and I am in extreme SW Indiana. You can bet that I'll let you know.

Re: Quickie for Dhadley

Alright, made it back safely. Fishing was horrid but the boat ran well. Decarbed it and picked up about 100 or so rpms. GPS clocked me at 23.1 with just me, two full gas tanks, and a well stocked cooler. Brother switched props from a beat to hell 11x10.5 to a basically new 10.5x10.5. With him, a small cooler, and a full six gallon gas tank he was at 27. Once we put our other 220lb buddy in his boat and my 150lb nephew in mine it evened out better but he could still take me. Still happy with the way my boat performed. I believe his boat like picked up at least three or four if not more mph with the new prop but then so did mine. I was used to doing about 33 to 35 in my old flat bottome jon boat but I was sore in certain places after a ride. Didn't seem to like the waves as much as this v bottom.

Fireman57,

Excellent! I'm glad it all worked out for you. Sounds like you've got a good thing going there. Now...we need to have a race. You're going just about the same speed I am in my 14.5' trihull with the ancient 35 and a 10x13 prop.

It does sound like you're happy with things as they are now. So go catch some big uns!
