I've got a 1993 remote control.
When using the Fast Idle Lever at first start, the lever does not move easily and seems to stay in a 2 o'clock position and go no farther. Upon starting the RPMs are low then jump up to high rpms all of a sudden.

Question: How does the "Fast Idle Lever" accuate the engine to run faster? What is the linkage? Is it a cable connection to the engine? Is it an electrical connection to the engine?

Do I have a faulty fast idle lever? Do I need to do some maintenance on it?

Sounds like it's working like it should to me. The reason the rpms start out slow and then jump all of a sudden is that your engine is cold and doesn't want to run right away. After you have warmed the engine up, shut it down, raise the fast idle and re-start the engine. Engine rpms should jump up immedietely. It works by pulling the throttle cable when the engine is in neutral so that the carburetor butterflys open a little.
