Hi iBoats forum! Quick question - I have an '85 bass tracker that I love (with an 25 HP '87 mercury XD and a quicksilver control box. If I could guess, I'd say the box wouldn't be any older than the '85 and probably is an '87). I've been looking at getting a new motor, but it seems overkill since my boat turned 30 this year. But I figured I'd buy the motor and be done. NOPE. Turns out the controls are another $900+ dollars. So my thoughts are, can I get a "newer motor" but still use my control box? I'm having a hard time figuring out what this control box will and won't work with - in terms of makes, as well as years. It would be awesome to know that it would work on a Merc up until 1999 or something like that. Any thoughts on where to start or any resources that would help? Any assistance is appreciated!
