Quicksilver control: Throttle only button failing.

Ok, so If I hold my mouth just right, wiggle it just right, and pray really hard, usually within 45 seconds I can get my Quicksilver control to go to throttle only.
It appears to be original equipment on my 1987 Sea Ray. I know I need cables, and would like a new control, but short of that, what can get me by for a week or two until I replace? More proper mouth holding and prayer? It seems to be worsening.

Go back with Quicksilver, or is the Teleflex stuff better.

I removed the Quicksilver control and replaced it with this one:

I don't have a clue which Quicksilver remote control Searay used in 87, could you post a picture of it? It may be as simple as replacing an inexpensive part.
Might even look at this manual if it's the same as yours.
