I'm sure most of you have used or heard of this product. The merc manual says to apply here and there, like the prop shaft. I've actually always used it around electrical connects prior to heat shrinking, the perfect seal oozes out and ain't no water getting in.

Now to my actual question...

Since this stuff is so damm water proof, can you use it on bolts and stuff. Like tstat housing bolts, head bolts, poppet housing bolts...etc. I sure it would do as good or better job than anti-seize grease.

Can you use it on gaskets to make a better seal for surfaces that are slightly untrue?

Andy, prefect seal is great for all that kind of stuff, thats why Merc uses it on the carriers and the props OMC markets it under a differant name but it's the same stuff

Its really great for bolts it lubes them and seals them to keep water from starting corrosion and does not have a Galvanic Reaction like many types of never sieze can

tommays

Re: Quicksilver Perfect Seal

Merc's 2=4C marine grease or Bombardier's Triple Guard lube is better for keeping bolts from freezing up. I've removed 5 year old gearcase bolts and water pump bolts from saltwater motors that still came out easily and had the grease on them after all that time.

Perfect Seal is good for sealing the threads if the area is not exposed to exhaust heat. Most saltwater techs know that bolts "freeze" from salt buildup by the shanks, not just the threads, and that's why marine grease does a better job.

I've used both Perfect Seal, & the OMC Flavor of this stuff. I have always believed in "Use what the manufacturer recomends" But was wondering this stuff looks & acts like the old "Indian Head Gasket Shelac" Is it the same?
