My Volvo Aq125 Seems To Have Some Timing Issues. We Had To Move The Distributor A Notch To Get Her To Start. Once It Did It Ran Better Than Ever. Problem Is It Quit Again After About An Hour Total Usage. By Moving The Distributor As Far As The Adjustment Allows It Will Try To Fire. The Belt Is New And As Far As I Can Tell The Gears Are Fine. What Would Cause This To Jump Time? It Did It After Just Starting And Then It Died And Would Not Go Again

I may be way off in left field, possibly center, but does your distributor have a ground point on it? is it clean and the wire looks good both sides, as when you move your distributor is it hunting for ground through your tighten down point?

Have you done a tune up lately? Points, condenser, etc. You need adjust your timing with a light, don't keep turning your dist. Check your dwell (point gap). Your timing belt tentioner is good?

Get her started and time it with a timing light. That is the only way to time an engine. Also what is the dwell? Should also check and make sure the belt did not jump. If it did, then time to replace it and the gears may be pitted and rusty which will kill a belt in no time.

Have a great day

What was the timing when you set it and then later on when it "jumped"? The timing belt drives the cam but it also drives a gear that turns the distributor so you have to make sure your timing belt is tight. There is a hole in the timig belt cover where you access a bolt that loosens the timing belt tensioner so the spring takes up the slack in the timing belt. You then tighten it back up.

Personally, I would take off the timing belt cover and make sure the cam is still in alignment with the crankshaft. You can also see what the condition of the belt is in case you need to change it.
