I have a 2002 Mercury 90 HP 4 stroke O/B with a RACOR S3220TUL fuel filter ahead of it. The local jobbers sell the S3220TUL as a fuel filter/water separator, but when I go to the Parker Racor website and look at the specifications, the picture gets hazy.

Parker lists two similar filters; the S3220TUL and the S3220SUL. They are identical in size and flow capacity, but the SUL is rated at 2 microns and the TUL is rated at 10 microns. The smaller the number, the better the filter, right?

Also, the description for the SUL says "Marine Fuel Filter/Water Separator", while the description for the TUL says only "Element Assy - Marine Gasoline".

Everybody in the country sells the S3220TUL as a fuel/water filter, but what's the real story?
