I had a tank that had some water in it, I thought I got most of it out but when I run it I get a little in the clear bowl of my racor water seperator. I just drain it off and keep going. I let the boat sit for a few weeks and the whole bottom of the filter bowl was full of water. can the filter suspend some water and then let it settle to the bottom after sitting for a while. the tmotor that runs off of this tank has a surging problem above 4100 rpm (Yamaha 130) possible restricted filter due to water? the element is new.

Re: racor question

Gator, The racor fuel seperator will not stop water entering your fuel system if it is full. It is only designed for small amounts of water such as condensation.

Sounds to me that you have more than a little water in your tank and that it has entered your fuel system past the racor.

I've never seen the bowl filling up with water while the motor is off and I can't think of a situation that would cause this. For the filter to seperate water from fuel - it needs to be flowing.

Aldo

Re: racor question

Tank: Once drained you can let it air dry.

Motor: In all honesty, I know more about women than yammys (very little :( )
Best to post under 'yamaha outboards' to get specific advise on cleaning the fuel system.

Generally speaking, alcohol is not used anymore to remove water in modern motors.

Aldo

Re: racor question

Empty the tank and let air dry (place somewhere with airflow across the opening to aid drying), drain all lines and replace racor filter and any other inline filters(should be one or two factory) and you'll be good to go.
