I have a pontoon w/96 40 hp force by mercury marine. My question is what can I do to get all the static/alternator buzz out of the radio. It is hooked to the battery for a power source. Thanks for any help I can get.

Sounds to me like a bad ground... Make better connections, and it should solve it.

they make line noise filters, they arent that expensive. I used to use one on my CB in the car.

noise filter will work if not try to use just one batery for the radio make sure you check you swr you need to see if you antina is matched up to your radio can blow it up not too many people do just to be on the safe side then youll know if your radio is woking the way it should be

Also, check the spark plug number(s) and make sure you are using resistor(or suppression)plugs. If the plug number is not a resistor type, change them over.Champion plugs usually use a letter like Q in the beginning of the number. This designates a resistor plug.

Try connecting a wire from the chasis of the radio to a ground source on the boat. This normally works great in place of a filter. and its easy too do........Good luck.
