Hi all. First time boat owner and new member. I apologize in advance if I’m not doing the initial intro post right. I’m replacing my radio in my 1995 sea ray 175 BR and noticed it has no accessories connection wire only red to battery. Is it okay if I pass a new wire to feed my new radio from my key switch accessory? And use the existing wire for the radio’s memory?

Thank-You !

Personally, I'd recommend using a relay from that key switch line, then routing the existing power from the battery through an appropriate fuse, into the relay, then into the radio. Just also be sure you have the appropriate gauge wire for the application.

Mine has the original radio it was a straight power and switched power was to the toggle switch. If you want accessories position in the ignition. Newer bayliners have it. I can find out what year my buddies is. 25 anniversary edition whatever year that was.

I don't see a problem with the proposed as long as you put an inline fuse as close to the battery as possible.

One word of caution: The marina I bought my current boat from mentioned that IF I didn't use the boat often enough to top off the battery that the memory circuit from the radio would drain the battery. Their advice was to set my battery switch to OFF if the boat would sit for long periods of time. **Also plugging in the onboard battery charger would keep things up to snuff.

Just passing it along...take it for what it is worth.

Sounds Great. Thank-You all. I like the idea of a relay, not sure how many amps the accessories switch can handle so I’m guessing with a relay would not Mather right?

Best thing to do is wire a switch to it so that power can be turned off to it when not in use. Do not wire it to your ignition switch.

That’s what I did after I figured out the radio was running the battery down while not in use .
Just flip the switch when you want to listen ...
