Just got a new uniden VHF last season, and today it stopped working. The power still turns on and the screen lights up but nothing out of the speaker? BUT the wierd thing is when I plug in a pair of head phones in the remote speaker outlet the VHF is heard throught the remote speaker. So the main speaker is not working but everything else is. How could this happen how can i fix it, what should I look for. I cant afford another radio, so I have to fix it.

Thanks
Tony

Tony
I supect one of two things.
1: The outlet where you plug in your remote speakers or headphones may be bad. Most of the speaker outlets disconnect the main speaker when you plug in headphones or a remote speaker. When you unplug remote speakers by removing the plug a spring loaded contact should again make contact to turn on the main speaker. This contact could be dirty or corroded or the spring that closed the contact could be weak so the contact does not close. This is all part of the jack you plug into. So see if your can see the contact and clean it.

2: The main speaker it self may be bad. Rust or corroded. Jumper a second speaker in parallel to main speaker. If it works try to free the main speaker coil and clean it up or replace the main speaker.

You bought it last season, I would be looking for the bill of sale, look in the manual see how long it is guarenteed. I have a standard radio sent back to factory almost 3 years old, & they repaired it free. Talk w/ the store manager you bought it from. Good luck, Joe
