Ran engine for 5 mins with no water

In my haste to get my boat ready, I accidentally hooked up the hoses to my water pump backwards. I then ran the engine for, maybe 5 mins or so, and noticed that the temperature was coming up faster than I expected. It got up to 200 degrees a lot faster than usual. So, I shut the motor down, and realized what I did, let the motor cool off, swapped the hoses, and re-started it. Then the motor ran fine, and everything seems OK.

Is there anything you guys can think of that is worth checking after running the motor with no water? It *seems* fine, but I am still nervous that I could have done some damage that hasn't shown up yet. It is a 3.0L Volvo Penta.

Thanks!

Start by changing your impeller. Was the motor stored wet or dry?

When you take out the old one, if there are missing vanes see if you can find them, they could be in the thermo housing...and take a look at the exhaust system, specifically the rubber exhaust hose from the riser to the pipe on the transom mount, sometimes they can get overheated on the inside and start to delaminate.... but only for 5 min, it may be fine...
