Hi, a couple of weeks ago our 1998 gp1200 waverunner was ran through some mud accidently. Since then the overheat alarm and light goes off after running it for 5 mins. or so. I assume something is blocked. Any ideas if this is something I can do myself? Any idea where I should start? Thanks for any input. I have an appointment set up for next week at the shop but if it something I could do myself I would like to save some money.
Thanks,

Rich

you can remove the water hose at the engine coming from the pump and back flush it to see if it is clogged. you may have sand in the water jackets and that may require the head to be removed to clean it out

Check if there is a filter on the water intake.

I had an issue like that with my tigarshark, Mine has a sand/mud/ other things filter on the water intake for the cooling system, just had to clean the filter, and it started going again. (First I verified that water was comming out the exit holes after I clean the filter.

you should only have to take a gargen hose and push the water the other way.

PS. DONT remove the filter while you are in the water! (Guess how I know! :$).
