On my little boat the gas tank is in the center console, and you see how much gas is in there. Well, a couple of weeks ago I went fishing, the exploring up a river. Headed back across the bay toward the ramp and ran slam out of gas. I freaked out because I could see that there was like three inches of gas in the tank (it is one those plastic ones the you can kind of see through). Thank God I had made it back across the bay. I was near shore and the 10 knot SW wind blew me to shore. What to do. I was about a mile from a ramp but my truck was at another ramp about 5miles away. I didn't want to leave my boat and fishing gear unprotected in the boat at the closer ramp, and the water wasn't that deep, so I decded to push the boat to the ramp where my truck was parked. So I start off, pushing the boat, walking in waist deep water through some kind primortial muck that was like stepping in 10" of dog poo. Yeah!!

I pushed and pushed and pushed. That 5 miles seemed like 20. Finally, about 1/2 mile from the ramp John Law shows up and takes pity on me. My dad is a retired water cop and this guy worked with my dad for years before his retirement. At least they'll have something to talk about the next time see each other. Oh yeah, I stepped on sting ray too. Big one. Again, thank God he didn't get his stinger in me, that would have really made my day. All in all it wasn't so bad and I learned a few things. Like, when the boat needs gas, that my gas is more accurate than I thought, and sometimes you be really happy to see the water cops.
