Ranger 619 battery question

I am a new ranger owner, but not new to boats.

I am perplexed as to why the wiring is that way it is in this boat.

I have a 24 volt trolling motor. Both batts for the trolling motor are run in series to make 24 volts, but one of the batteries in the series has all the electronics that run the bilge, radio, and all the other crap hooked to it.

Then the starting battery has just the motor hooked to it.

I have always had all the electronics for any boat that I have owned hooked to the starting battery. That way it has a way of charging if I am out on the water for a long time.

I need full capacity from the trolling motor batts because I fish pro walleye events all year, so....

What are your guys thoughts on this. Should this be wired this way? or should I take all the accessories and put them on the starting batt?

BTW, it is grossly under powered as far as the batts go. Only group 27's for the trolling motor and a group 24 for the starting batt. and they are all walmart batteries. So first things first, have to get some AGM's in there.

Re: Ranger 619 battery question

theres 2 groups of thought on this

1/ keep the starting battery with minimum load as it was designed to be stopped and started alot as you move every 15mins while fishing. With 2 live wells working all the time some people dont like to have a flat battery

or

2/ move everything to the starting battery and leave the trolling batteries just for the trolling motor

my boat is wired the second way as i have a perko switch as back up you will have to decied what is right for the way you use it

Re: Ranger 619 battery question

Having a 12 volt accessory feed from one battery in a 24 volt series hookup is not at all uncommon. Unnecessary in my view but not at all uncommon. Having your electronics connected to either the troller circuit or the starting battery has nothing to do with charging the starting battery. It will charge regardless what is connected to it. Batteries are buckets of electricity -- whatever you need power for will deplete one or the other in your case you either risk a flat starting battery or reduced fishing time. You make your choice and face the consequences. The solution is bigger batteries for longer run time, or dual STARTING batteries with an ACR or Dual Battery Switch configuration.
