Rant first....people, don't throw your broken tie down strap in the water by the boat ramp!

Okay. It was 80 degrees, sunny, and beautiful yesterday. Took off early from work to go boating. We have had really cool spring weather here in Wisconsin. I kid you not...we were still wearing jackets last week. Lows in the 40s. Next week didn't look better and the day's forecast was high 70. I think it actually hitted 80. I rearranged my schedule and took the afternoon off. We launch off just fine..our 3rd or 4th times. Wife and I are getting our system down and were pretty efficient.

So we idle out to the deep part of the lake. I gave the helm to my wife to sit back and relax. By the way, we have a Seadoo Jet boat. Once we got past the wake marker, she proceeded to give it throttle. There was no acceleration, the rpm revved, and the boat vibrated. Immediately, my wife let off on it and we looked at each other. WTH! I jump into the seat and give it a try. Same thing...going forward and going back. We were idling..can go forward in no wake speed...but no power beyond it. Once it got pass 4000 rpm, the vibration hits. It was evident that the day out on the lake was over!

So we brought it back to the ramp and we got the boat out of the water. By the way, I am getting better at this part of it. Got a tip about leaving my tailgate up while backing it up so I can actually see the trailer-san-boat! As soon as I went under....I figured out the problem!! You will never guess! There it is a freaking nylon strap with a rubber coated metal S hook in my port impeller intake!!!! Some ******(&^ broke his tie-down strap so he dropped it in the water by the ramp. My boat picked it us when we left the launch. We have twin engines so we were able to idle out without realizing that there was anything wrong!

We tried to get it out but it was pretty much stuck there and we had nothing out on the ramp. So we drove it a mile home. After getting some good flashlights, we can see that it was lodge pretty good. I can see that my impeller had damage.

Here comes the Rave!

So, off to the dealer I went. I have been researching the Seadoo dealers nearby and picked Nielsen's Motorsport. They are listed as a 'Premiere Service Provider'. So we drove there and dropped the boat off. I figured that we would have to leave the boat indefinitely. Didn't feel too bad since the weather for the weekend and the following isn't too promising....drop in temp and lotsa rain! Not so! No sooner than I talked to a guy, he had someone jump right to it! I am standing them in awe as two guys ran over to my boat and started working on it. Car dealers don't even do this! They even told me that if there is no damage, we could be back on the water in a few. He went under and removed the strap and did an inspection. They basically said that the wear ring is damage and need to be replaced. So anywho, I asked them...if they will call me when they have it ready for me next week. The service guy was like,"Next week?! We should have it ready for you tomorrow!" We will call you tomorrow and let you know when we can pick it up! Holy schnike! That was 4:20 or so on Friday afternoon. Today, I get a call at 11:45..boat is done and ready!! I am freaking stunned at their customer service of their service department. They are a motorcycle and boat dealer in the Northern Illinois Chicago suburb. They are truly a class act!!!

Great story -- it's always nice to hear of good service stories. Seems they are few and far between. Also, good for you getting your other half comfortable operating the boat. It makes all the difference both in terms of safety and also getting the spouse involved can make the outings more interesting for them. Happy boating!

just so you know, removing the outer layers of the jet pump and servicing the stator is yearly maintenance, good to know how to do it yourself. (You have to remove the wear ring to do this) I have replaced my wear ring on my seadoo in 30 minutes or so.

I've been to this dealer a few times for motorcycle parts and they do seem to know what's going on and have a knowledgable staff on hand.

That's is what it should be like for every service department. But unfortunately not all shops are like that. I have been in the service business awhile and have treated my customers like I would want to be.

what I do with my mechanics, is give them lots of lead times on repairs. Sometimes I might not need a boat back for a month, so I tell them and they can work on others first. But that way, when I need a quick fix, they will put me at the front of the line. Communication, cooperation and reasonable requests get you far.

Thanks Cuda. First boat and the family is loving it.

Home Cookin'..that is great advice. I have been reading a lot of post and, for the most part, did not refer to quick turnaround from marine shops. I brought it in fully expecting at least several days while I wait my turn. Given the weather forecast, I knew that it wasn't necessary for me to get it for a week or so. But the fact that they jumped on it the minute I brought it in and that they got it ready so quickly...is really impressive. You just always hear about the bad....just wanted to share the goods!! In my mind, they are the bomb!:D
