Anybody here have the tundra? I am thinking about buying one to replace my 96 nissan pickup. It will be used for work.....having a lumber rack and toolboxes and also used to tow a bass boat.It will be a 4x4.I dont know what type rearend that they have but would want a limited slip at the very least. So ,any info would be apreciated.

Re: RATING THE TOYOTA TUNDRA

Well.... my best friend has one (tundra crew cab with the v-8) and it is a nice riding truck but has a few faults.

Mileage is no where near as advertised.
Repair cost (mechanical and collision cost) are higher which lends to higher insurance rates.
The cabin is no where as roomy or comfortable as the full size Chevy or Ford (extended cabs) vs his crew cab.
The single most primary complaint is it's load handling.... a 600 lb 4 wheel atv loaded into the bed causes it to visibly squat and bottom out way too easy. (we call it a 1/4 ton truck as a joke) The Chevy and Fords handle the loads better. The chev is available with a locking differential which is better than limited slip.
We hooked it to my cuddy cabin on a tandem trailer and it had a hard time towing it...we had to downshift and stay away from OD.

Sorry to bring this dark cloud but IMO they are not a true work truck....maybe a truck for a soccer parent but not a worker.

You will also have fun parking as the turning Radius is 50 Ft as oppsed to 40 ft in a real truck. They do ride nice and look ok. Milage is Ok but not great.

Have you tried the new Frontier truck? I like it a lot.

Re: RATING THE TOYOTA TUNDRA

I havent tried the new frontier yet.I would be interested if the bed would be at least 4ft wide between the wheel wells.and at least 6.5ft long.
So the tundra is not the truck i thought it would be.
Anybody have any recomendations for a good dependable work truck, that is decent on gas?Criteria would be:4x4
extended cab
at least 4x6.5 bed
limited slip or lockable rear

Re: RATING THE TOYOTA TUNDRA

My neighbor traded a new GM 4 door 4x4 fullsize truck for a 4 door Tundra. He really likes it, feels it is of much higher quality. His economy is better than with the GM, it tows his boat better, and is not as junky sounding. His GM was creaking and rattling within months of purchase. The only downfall is the Tundra isn't as roomy as the GM was, but that was the only negative to the trade.

Have you looked at the new Ford F150? It is a good truck, very well built. The new Frontier is a nice truck as well.

The F-150 received the highest rating for initial quality in any full size pickup. (JD Power).

The 4.7 cannot compare to the 3-valve 5.4 Triton for pulling power. I've dragged the same load with both.

Look at the difference in the frames.
