Just bought a 454 and I need a fuel/raw water pump combo. The price ranges from 150$ to 1150$…. Anyone have any experience with the cheaper pump???IMG_9039.png

Ayuh,...... Last time I was in that position, I went with an electric fuel pump, 'n a crank driven raw water pump,.....

Agree that the crank driven raw water pump will work better than the mercruiser one. Cant beat the carter universal marine fuel pump, relay, and oil pressure switch for the fuel pump as well.

Will also caution you with the Stainless Marine elbows. if you have any overlap to the cam, the short elbows have reversion.

It does have a cam in it I’m not sure what the specs are on it. I have concerns about water reversion. I have the stock exhaust on it now but haven’t fired it up. Any signs I should look for in seeing if reversion is taking place? *picture is the exhaust I plan to run*

Need to know the cam specs or dyno hp numbers to determine what type exhaust is needed.

The motor pic looks like it had dry to the tip exhaust. If that is needed then the ones your showing will not work

So if I got a riser spacer would that work?

Not really, spacers just raise the amount of water higher, its still close the the exhaust exit point. Need to get the water further away from the motor so it doesn't get sucked back in

Raising helps but its getting it further way is the main course. I had a 530hp 502 and used Eddie Marine manifolds with 3 inch rise and long tubes (similar to your first pic)

you need to get the cam specs first. Dont mess around with it as it will ruin the motor fast of the exhaust is wrong. Even if you have to pull the cam to find the number on it it is worth it to do it right.

here is a basic write up on it. Height of riser is not the issue but length where exhaust is dry is

would expect with a single plane intake that would put the power band up where the cam would be in the reversion neighbor hood

I tested a set of +6" elbows. 1741288287287.png

then because of the cam I was running, I ran a custom cross-over

Some connecting rods can take a REVERSION and a hydro lock.
Without knowing the OVERLAP TIMING of the cam. You can not really play with the shiny exhaust parts.
