Hi,

I've been looking actively for a decent fishfinder that also has speed and temperature features. I will be only in salt water, in the bay and close off shore off Long island NY. My boat is an 18' center console Angler so space is limited.

After reading through lots of posts and reviews all over the net, I think I like the raymarine DS-400x. Does anyone have one and can share how they like it?

Also, I'm really having a hard time finding any on sale anywhere. DS500 and DS600 yes DS400 no. Is this a new item, or an older one thats being closed out? I can't finds introduction dates any where.

Lastly, in keeping my costs at $300.00 or less, is there a better unit to go with?

Another post on this forum said for shallow salt water to go with lowrance and to get a dual frequency unit 50/200Khz min 500WRMS or 4000W P toP.

I looked on the Lowrance site and none of their models meet those specs.

I'm not sold on color, I just want to get the best bang for my buck. My old unit was a hummimgbird matrix 12. I was never really all that happy with it, and as the boat is only a year old, If Im going to drill holes, I only want to do it once.

Thanks!

Mike
