Dryer will fire up but after about ten minutes the flame goes out. Then the igniter will glow every couple of minutes but it will not light. After it cools down it will fire up then the whole process repeats. It is free of lint and the exhaust blows strong. The unit is 11 years old so it might be time for a new one, but if it a easy fix I would like to try. Times are tough. I have read that it could be the burner coils. But could be other stuff as well I don't know a lot about electronics and don't have a good understanding of ohms and circuits. Could someone help me diagnose this problem or give me your opinion if a new one is in order.

The two black coils that sit on top of the gas valve are going bad, when the dryer is cold it will work once or twice then not light up ,the ignitor is calling for heat so everything else is working but the coils get hot and will not work after a time or two until they cool down.. 40.00 50.00 bucks should getyou back in business..

Re: rca gas dryer problem

Thanks Tom. From what I have read on the web that's what I was leaning towards. Your post prompted me to go ahead and get the coils. The parts guy at the store described my problem to a tee. So that's gotta be it. I did find an exploded diagram so it should be an easy fix. i was just wandering if I need to pull the entire burner assembly to get to the coils? Or should I try to get in there with a stubby screwdriver.and leave the assembly intact. Anything else to look out for? I read some of your post and it sounds like you know your way around small appliances so I thought I would ask. Thanks again

Actually a dryer is considered a large appliance, anyway ,ya been selling parts for 30 some years now and working on them about as long.A stubby phillips will work if you can get good leverage on the screws they are on there pretty tight!!!

Re: rca gas dryer problem

Installed the new coils last night and it seems to be cycling through just fine. Dried a couple of loads tonight. Those screws were in there pretty tight like you said, but using that stubby driver made my life a whole lot easier. Thanks again Tom. I might have to hit you up again when I feel like tinkering with this annoying ice dispenser problem on my fridge.
