Here's a clue; Does the motor run fine as is? Most likely it does. Your red and white wires have to do with electric start models in that era. The wire loom attached to your engine is the same one they attach to the electric start model. In short; you don't need those wires unless you do "electrify the motor".

Good day mate! ;)

First you say it is pull start, then you say (and show) that it has wires coming out of it. Manual start motors have no wires coming out. So...either you have an electric start motor, or you have a manual start motor that somebody has modified. Furthermore, if it is an electric start motor, those wires you picture are not what Johnson put in at the factory.

Bottom line: We don't have any idea what they go to. You will have to look and see where they go and figure it out from there.

Refer to the diagram: The ignition switch electrically connects the two black wires together to stop the motor.

yes thats rite it has a pull start and it also has a starter motor on it like my super sea horse, but people seem to enjoy cutting wires instead of disconnecting them with a spanner...

They ALL had a recoil pull starter, even the electric start ones. Yeah, I hear you on the wire hackers. Is it legal to shoot them there where you are?
