Howdy.

RDE-19 is a 1958 35HP.

Plugs are Champion J4C gapped at .030".

Points are set at .020"

Good engine. Good luck. :)

Re: Rde-19

well i have a parts catalog for RDE-RDEL-19, but not a service manual, i am holding off getting one for all my stuff as i am still negotiating for all the left over marine stuff when a local small engine shop changed hands, and i want all the old manuals, so i am holding off till then buying one on here, i kinda thought it was a '57 model, serial # is 289613

Nice motor indeed...got one on the rack in the shop right now, waiting for a replacment starter. Check out the Top Secret file in the FAQ section of this forum...it'll tell you where/how to start getting an old workhorse back in the traces. Penetrating oil and an impact driver will help a lot.

Re: Rde-19

thanks for the info, it looks very clean and has all the stuff, even a dashplate with the start , stop/choke buttons, i have a detailed parts manual as well, i feel i did good , it is not seized, and i think i can get it to work on a old wooden boat i am restoring about the same era. I am just learning about this stuff, and i have got sort of carried away as i get lucky and stumble across stuff, have a ton of motors to restore and am starting with some of the older ones, but i find them every day , i never saw this 35HP before yesterday, right place at the right time i guess, i got it and all the stuff for 90$, with 2 tanks, thanks again for the input, did johnson/evinrude ever make a bad motor??

Re: Rde-19

What a great deal! I have the same engine I'm hoping to get up and running this year also. I plan to put it on a '59 LoneStar Malibu aluminum boat I got in the spring and plan to work on it soon also... The '57 and '58's metal guys look so much better than the '59 and on ugly-as-sin fibreglass hoods!

Where do you live? How do you get so many free engines???
