Well. thanks for the advise on (is there water pumping). Answer-NO.. It seems the bearing that was replaced by a mercury certified mechanic came apart (4 hours run time) and destroyed the upper unit gears, locking the vertical gear giving the feel of gear contact. The horizontal gear turned with the engine because enough of the vertical gear was destroyed and allowed the horizontal gear to turn. Time for a new OD. Tired of *^%$$#^ with it. Thanks for de info.
