I have just bought a beautiful 1995 Bayliner Capri 2050 LS Brunswick Anniversary Edition with a 5.0L V8. THe body is in immaculate condition, new flooring with new carpet but there are numerous cracks in the vinyl seats. It drives me crazy to have such a beautiful boat on the outside while she is suffering on the inside!

Are there any slip covers made that can be used to cover the seats (especially in the bow) until I am ready to invest $2000 to re-do the vinyl and seating?!

I have seen several places on the internet that sell the vinyl fabric to redo the seats your self but I am not sure how hard that would be to do your self. Mainly interested in the bow as they are the worst ones.

Thanks for your help,

Just buy some of the thicker canvas material @ wally world and lay it over the cushions to make the pattern overlap it about three inches on the bottom hem it all the way around and attach it with some adhesive velcro then spray it with some 3m water repellant. it should last until funds are available for re-upolstry.

i would like to stick with vinyl I believe, got a staple gun so all I need is the vinyl fabric and Im gonna give it a shot I guess. As for the design: the seats are white with a wide blue strip running across them so it isnt too intricate that it couldnt be duplicated. Now to find the vinyl so I can get some new interior pics up here!

Thanks fellas

Please take pictures and post. This I have to see!

When you are all done and decide to get it done properly, find a local shop that does marine interiors. He will probably knock down the price if you remove the seats and side panels yourself.

Actually, Fireman57 is the guy to ask. He does it for a living. Woodonglass made an attempt at it ,which is admirable, but not sure I would have not put what he made into my boat.

I have done upholstery work on my boat but I have sewn a lot before making boat covers and I have an industrial machine. Pretty hard to do good work without the proper sewing machine.

I second the need for an industrial, walking foot, machine. You can find these on Craigslist if you're really
serious about doing good upholstery, but as stated, doing neat edges/corners/multiple colors takes a lot
of experience.

This is what you need. This is a picture of my machine.

If you use a home sewing machine, you will run into two issues:
1) Your stitch width will be too narrow causing too many holes.
2) You won't be able to us thick enough thread.

Your upholstery job will be OK for the first year but as time goes on, the small thread and close stitch will cause the vinyl to rip.

lets not freak the guy out here...lol...its not that tough lol!

i did the whole interior of mt bayliner....all of it...then every body that saw it asked if i could do there boats as well !

yes...there some tricks to it...but he just has to staple some panels and sew one straight line !

to the OP.....the link in my sig has pics of upholstery work being done....its near the end of the thread.

also in the restoration section.....mrd flores...has vids attached to his thread all about doing upholstery

thanks all of you, big help. I am probably going to wait til the end of the season as the interior isnt bad, mainly just the bow seating and they remove very easily. I can take them off and into the garage before we store the boat for the winter. Then I can try it numerous times trying to get it right. Guess my next move is to buy a decent quantity of vinyl for the mishaps!

P.S. New to the iboats forums and love them already. Definately a must have for any boat owner/enthusiast
