I am re-glassing the console where the gauages once sat. They where installed with a big rectangle cut out and gauges mounted to piece of plastic that bolted to console. I am planning on re-glassing the opening and cutting holes directly in the console for gauges. My question is this, Wil the glass be strong enough to hold up to drilling big holes and mounting gauges? Also should i use mat sheets or cloth or a combination of the two. Also all i can find local as for resin is poly resin. If i use filler on top and seal and paint will using poly resin effect anything? I know i have seen alot of posts where they hate poly resin.

Rage, Just checked out your project page. Rather than glass up the console, why not get a piece of smoked lexan or something like that and mount the gauges in it and bolt it into the dash like the original. I would think that mounting and wiring gauges would be easier that way. Good luck! :)

Ya, Kenbo is right... Mount the gauges in a sub-panel.... that way, you can lean the panel out, to access the backs of the gauges for service....

You could also get some thick sheet aluminum and mount them in, or some other sort of metal. I will be using some 1/8th thick aluminum I have to mount my guages in. You could also go the fiberglass route, and poly would be fine, you just have to use it right. Epoxy is good, but it is not necessary. Just remember, your whole boat is made of poly, and it seems to be doing just fine. You would want to use alternating layers of mat and cloth or roving to build up a nice thick solid surface, but for what you want to do, it is a lot more work than just using something else for the panel. Good luck....
