I want to correctly re-install my 150 outboard on to my rebuilt transom. Obviously I do not want it to leak ever!!! I have heard to use a product from 3M called 5200 on all thru transom holes. Anyone have opinions or for sure do's and dont's?

Thanks

First, carefully coat the mounting holes with epoxy. Then get the motor height right. When the height is right (no water on the AV plate @ WOT, then seal the bolts and holes with either 5200 (very hard to remove) or 3M 4200 (easier to remove and faster curing ... 5200 takes 3 to 5 days to cure). Done!

I don't advise 5200 or 4200,its a great product, but ,if try and get the bolts out later ,or get motor off,you will have major trouble.it can sctually rip the gel coat off,I saw a boat where 5200 was used, after the bolts were out,the 5200 that was used to seal off and had contact with engine bracket, lifted the boat ,rather then lift the engine, thats the job the gel coat rippedoff.I use polyseam seal myself. You can put a large amount around the outside of the hole and also inside the holes, inside the holes helps seal any raw wood that becomes exposed through the drilling

A bedonder, such as Antibond can be used to prevent damage if removal is needed for 4200 or 5200. Epoxy is the best for protecting wood core from water intrusion.
