Re-installing pivot housing

Hi Folks

I am re-installing my pivot housing and not having joy aligning the 1/2" hex drive "hinge bolts" with the female threads in the housing. Both sides!

I turn and turn...adjust alignments, and they just will not grab that bloddy thread. I needed to pack up and walk away today out of frustration.

With the pivot housing on a bench, the bolts thread in nice and easy, my threads are intact and clean.

Is there a trick to this one? Seems like the large diameter plastic washer wants to wander in the way...

Thanks
Chris

I put a dab of heavy grease on those washers to help hold them in place. Sure you have the correct bolds? Some were course thread and some (newer ones) are fine thread. Is shouldn't be to hard, I do it alone but a helper really helps.

Re: Re-installing pivot housing

Found the problem.

The thrust washers that sit in the recess of the pivot housing had an inside diameter that was ever so slightly smaller than the bolt thread. You could thread the washer onto the bolt by hand, if you held the washer. However if the washer was in the recess of the pivot housing, it could not be accessed to be held. There it would spin with the bolt, not take in thread, and not allow the bolt to pass.

I ground the inside of the washers so they just slip over the thread with no resistance. Its beyond me how this was assembled before.

Anyway..All back together.

Thanks
Chris
