Forgot to raise the trolling motor before taking off for a "better" fishing hole. (first dumb thing I've done so far)

Ripped the front two bolts up out of the boat but didn't crunch any of the glass.

So far, I've only found one rubber tubular gromet rolling around up front but can't figure out how the deal works.

93' Nitro. 54 motor guide. Gotta be a top loading rig, right? Such a tight space: my cat can't even get up in there.

Any help much appreiciated, Bobberhead

Re: Re mounting motor guide...

ok there are rubber mounts that have a nut inbeaded in them when you screw the bolt into them the rubber exspands and fills the hole you can order them from basspro shop I got mine at wally-world. you will need to take the motor off and insert the rubber part from the top then the motor sets on top of them and then you bolt through the motor into the rubber a WALA motor mounted!! those bolts were about $10 bucks I think and you will need to replace all of them (4 I think) they come in a set of 4 anyway.

Re: Re mounting motor guide...

Thanks,

Just the kinda good news I was hoping to hear.

Funny though, the bolts that pulled through were clean: no nuts on the ends, no stripped threads (that I can see), nothing at all.

$10 to do away with the piece of rope I have on there now is tough, but since buying the boat, I have become rather good at biting bullets.

Heck, just getting back from looking at a new 4 blade prop, I would pleased if they were $10.00 each. NO! Forget I said.

Bobber

Re: Re mounting motor guide...

Bobber...
MotorGuides are famous (or infamous if you please) for pulling the well-nut mounts out of the hull.

My BRAND NEW... 60" shaft, 109lb thrust motor did the very same thing THE very first time I turned on the motor... The torque of the motor alone pulled them out of the hull. I called motor guide, who replaced the mounts, and sent me "new" instructions on how to install the mounts... Instructions were basically the same, and sure-as-shootin', they did the same thing...

Rather than call them again... I "fixed" that little problem, by cutting four (4) 3" diameter by 3/4" thick plywood "pucks" (with a hole saw), then inserting some "T-Nuts" into the plywood pucks, and finally soaking the whole mess in fiberglass resin, and "glueing" them on the inside of the hull, where the trolling motor mount holes are.

After they had dried in place, I simply took the original rubber well-nuts, and cut the brass nuts out of the rubber mounts, then used them as the "cushion" for the bracket. NO more problems...

Good Luck, Obiwan

Re: Re mounting motor guide...

In the process of purchasing a 1999 Donzi 275 LXC with a 7.4MPi Mercruiser. It's my first cruiser and I just hope everything will be ok with it. My other boat is a 1996 Nitro 170TF with a 115Hp Merc, but will go to the dealer as a trade-in.
