Re: No spark to starboard side of motor. PLEASE HELP!

UPDATE !!!!
-Disconnected grey plug on the port side of the power pack and engine will rev up with the foot throttle and I have spark to both sides.
-Tested shift switch and it was fine. When I pushed on pin it cut the three cylinders, and when released the spark came back.Resistance test (good). There is one common ground off the switch and one power wire which is split to 2 plugs. Anybody know why the two plugs? One to pack and other to ignition I guess? One wire does not have any continuity with switch in or out.
-(Charge coil testing)Manual talks of a 4 pin connector on the starboard side of the pack but is actualy a 6 pin. Had no voltage output off of the BRN/YEL and BRN/WHITE pins when connected to the BRN pin. Should have 150 volts. Is this telling me my stator is bad and why does it run with this condition.
- ground test for charge coil was good
-resistance test between Brn-White and BRN Wireis suppose to indicate 100-1200 ohms. Had 0 ohms
-continuity test between ground and the previous wires showed 0.
What is the shift interupter switch. Is this another name for the shift switch on the starboard side of motor I already tested.
ANY IDEAS ON MY FINDINGS. And sorry for being long winded, just so many details. Thanks Jay

Johnson 175 glera 1994. Thanks for your previous help TASH. I'm just doing a follow-up.
Previous post
My 94 Johnson 175(glera) idles fine, in or out of gear but when I push on the foot throttle it sputters and dies.Carb and throttle are in sync. When I checked for spark it was fine on all 6 cylinders til I give it some throttle then the starboard side looses spark. If it was the shift switch it would not start at all, correct ? Does this mean the power pack has gone or is it the stator? Going to test the coils next. Any input would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

how did you find out you are loosing spark on starboard side?

how did you verify that.

it happens when you give it throthle or does it happen when you advance the timing?

The shift assist switch is located behind your throttle lever.

If it is set right, it shuts off three cylinders when you shift from forward to neutral to make it easier to shift.

If it is set wrong, it will shut down three cylinders when you move the control arm - at the wrong time.

Temporarily disconnect the ground wire on the shift assist switch and see if things improve. (Don't do it when approaching the dock).

It happens when the timer base just starts to advance. Checked with plug wire disconnected and spare plug grounded to block. Whole starboard side does not spark when timing advances while port side still does.

Sounds like u have the same problem I have. My problem turned out to be a bad timer base. I swapped my known good side of spark (sensor wires at the power pack) to the side I knew was bad. If spark goes to opposite side (in your case, port side) you have a bad timer base. If spark stays the same your power pack is bad. Nice simple, ez diag. Good luck

Note that I have a foot throttle and I only use the shift lever to go in and out of gear. Motor idles perfect in and out of gear with all six cylinders firing. Thanks for all your input guys. Can you tell me if when cranking, you can have no voltage output from your charge coil on the stator and still have the motor idle fine?
