I got the exact help here I needed once before, and, thought I would try again. If anyone has any thoughts I would greatly appreciate.

Thanks,

Troy

Hi folks;

Starting up on my old DelMar again. I actually replaced a floor in another fiberglass boat before. This boat had relatively thick sides and sat low in the water. I replaced the floor with marine ply and reglassed. Very good results.

This DelMar has taller sides. I need to reglass the floor. The wood is very sound on the floor, I just need to re-glass it to seal it, basically - in the outside area.

The sides of this boat seem VERY thin - like a plastic almost. There is no apparent layer of resin/fabric. It looks like there might have been, and the
old paint coating is flaking off.

3 questions (2 non-glass):

1) Should I put a layer of fabric and resin on the sides (inside of course) to strengthen? It literally seems like it might be like 1/8th inch thick.

2) What is the purpose of the brass screw plug in the cuddy area on the floor? No bilge in this right?

3) It has a good running vintage motor on it - 35hp BigTwin. What is the largest recomended motor size if I ever want to upgrade?

You guys rock, thanks a lot for the help!

Troy I am not a glass guy so I cant help there but I can give you a bump. The motor size depends on the boat itself most of them have a plate that will give ratings as to Max HP Max people onboard and max weight allowed on the boat. I just didnt want you to think we were ignoring you :D. I am sure one of the Glass boat guys will be along if not us Tinny owners can just keep bumping for you :D.

I have a 20' center console, the glass hull is rather heavy but not on the sides, I don't think it has to be. If you really want to stiffen it then I would consider coring it with something composite. Theres a polyester floss material you can glue to the hull , then glass over it and it will really stiffen the area.
Its sold by nidacore. Its only about 1/4 inch thick so it wouldn't be an eyesore sticking out.
Matline.
