The big heavy 25 footer has a 1995 mariner 200 offshore on it, and its just not cutting it. I would like to re power it this coming summer. I have a few options and im not sure what one will be best. 1). Buy twin 150's- probably in the 00-04' range. 2). Buy 1 mercury opti max 250- not sure if it will be enough power. 3). Sack up and try to find a 07' Mercury racing opti max 300. I would like to find the best option that will give me the best overall boat. Fast enough, enough power to get me out of trouble offshore. Any other options for new motors would be great to hear... besides a brand new 350 fresh off the line, don't have the cash flow for that right now!

According to the NADA site the 79 Mako 25 is 2700 lbs not a total beast. From the tests I looked up a 200 should do the job.Checked 5 boats
new boats,new 200 Evinrudes.Dry weight from 2700 to 5200 Speeds from 39 to 46 mph.

Mako it is hard to give you any advice when you don't tell us either what your complaint is with present power or what results you are aiming for with a repower.
