First, lemme start.. I am not new to watercraft, 10 years in the Navy, and have driven all sorts of craft(From diesel powered jet boats, to... bigger stuff). My hobbies are also autos and bike, I can weld, wrench, etc etc etc etc..though, fiberglass is something I will have to learn...

ANYWAY...

Went to boot camp in winter 99....

While in "A" school, massive storm, and a tree fell on my 88 Four Winns 200 Horizon with a 4.3 OMC. Everything was properly winterized. Never bothered to fix the boat.. but, I am a civilian now, and, still have it...

Fast forward. I am looking at a 89 Bayliner Cuddy(for a song). SOLID, well maintained, (though, I havent drilled any holes into stringers or anything)...

Other than the 20 y/o upholstry, and power... seems like a good steal.

ANYWAY.. Thinking of running what I have for the summer... or whats left of it...

AND, pulling the the other OMC drive, engine, and controls from the other boat, and re-powering the bayliner with it. Something about a 19ft boat with only 130hp bothers me... hahaha....

I know, having the whole other OMC drive, most of it should be a no brainer. And, the only cash I would have in vested, is new rings, bearings, gaskets, seals, etc, since, even winterizing 10 years ago, I am sure it should be gone through, and might as well do it while out of a hull.

I know nothing of the fiberglass work involved though, for the mounting of the engine. That is the part that kinda has me shy...

I know, "Dont put any effort or work into a bayliner, blah blah".... that aside...

What say you?

It pushed my 20ft open bow to 42mph(dont remember what pitch the prop was, but, it was a good skiing prop), and I doubt the 130hp 19 foot will keep me happy for long. This is a little to no budget purchase, and, the parts to freshen the motor would cost more than the boat....

Comments aside, feasible? Too much fiberglass work?

Would the 35 hp even be worth it?

Thanks,
Chase

Woah, didnt realize this was my FIRST post here... ...

EDIT, FWIW, I HAVE seen these and the open bows with V8 OMCs, so, I am thinking....

A lot of work for 35 horsepower.
The rule of thumb is: 10 engine horsepower for 1 mph...3.5 mph increase.
Sell the 4.3 power package, take the money to replace the interior.
