Re-Use Old Fuel Tank??

Well, after the complete destruction of 2 grinders and a saw-zaw, I am now finished gutting my 83 ProLine CC. In the process, I removed the OEM 69gallon fuel tank, and thats my question. . . should I re-use it, or sell it?

The exterior of the tank is in great shape - its constructed of 5032 aluminum alloy. I have no idea what condition the interior is in. . . it does have a gallon or so or gas/water that has probably been sitting in the tank for a few years.

What is the thought here? Attempt to re-use it or go with a new poly tank? If I should keep it, whats the process for re-conditioning the tank (is there maybe a thread already on this topic?). If not, should I scrap it or just throw it on craigslist?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Re-Use Old Fuel Tank??

Well, if you can get a mirror and a decent flashlight like a mag-lite, you can look inside to inspect it for any wayward pitting, etc. Aluminum corrodes in an oxygen rich environment, so a full tank of water would be better than a full tank of air in your case, but I digress.... if it was built solidly, then I don't see a reason to scrap it unless you see physical evidence of corrosion. That tank is worth .72 per pound scrap, so look at the idea of scrapping it and what you'd get out of it to put towards a poly tank if you decide to go that route instead...built in discount.:)
