Can someone tell me where the plug on Mercruiser is to connect the DDT code reader to??

Also, will a DDT that works for automotive engine work with this Mercruiser?

Thanks

To start they will need engine type and year. And no the car one should not work from what I have read here on the fourms from the past. But you may not know till you try it to be sure.

SN needed, Merc doesn't go by year on anything since 98.

Don't mean ti hijack - Does Merc really use some oddball computer setup with non-standard protocols or do they just use a different plug on the diagnostic connector?

Have no idea what the connectors look like on the automotive side, I don't work on cars and trucks.

Most cars since '96 use an OBDII connector under the steering wheel. Mercruiser uses a different protocol/tool/connector.

While OBDII standardised the connector, there is still mopre than one protocol used, the current scan tools are cross platform compatible.

I was just thinking that the most cost effective approach would be to reprogram the existing GM hardware for marine use, rather than desing and engineer a complete stand alone system. If that is the approach that Merc took then using an existing scanner (OBDI or OBDII as required) would be possible if you knew the pinnout of the Merc plug.
