Ready for Ignition?

Powerhead replaced on a '75 50 hp Johnson (50ESL75B). The first ran for three seconds and blew up after sitting for four or more years. It was stuck when I got it, but we had it turning well (aside from some harsh stops) when I put the plugs in it.

New powerhead is claimed to have run last year. It turns over smoothly. Now I'm kinda wishing I'd hit the crank with storage spray when the reed blocks were out. Should I take out the plugs and turn the motor with the starter while spraying through the carbs and then the plug holes, take the intake back off and spray, or something else?

Thanks,

Karl

Re: Ready for Ignition?

it would not hurt to tilt up and put some marvel mystery oil in the cylinders overnite, then drain them by turning over with the starter, put a towel over the plug holes, as it is going to spray oil all over everything behind it.
