Call me crazy (been called worse).

I am ready for Winter. I had my oil tank filled yesterday. I get it filled once a season and it lasts for a year. It is a 1000 gallon tank and I usually use 650 - 750 gallons a year.

I usually go through this ritual at the end of August and early September however, I don't see any spectacular price drops in the future.

I started calling the oil companies and asked for their seasonal "pre-buy" price. I was getting answers of $2.62 up to $2.79 per gallon. I was lucky and asked if I buy right now what would they do? I was lucky and filled at $2.45 a gallon.

I also keep a cord of wood on hand just in case the power goes out for back-up.

OUCH Bob!

My Mom who lives in Upstate NY has gone to heating totally with pellets due to the high price of heating with oil.

I know a "good ol' boy" that sells me wood for $150.00 a big truckload. Holds about 6 ricks. I help him throw it off the truck and give him a few beers and he's happy.
Burn wood in a Buckstove insert in the main living room and sometimes fire up a stove in the basement.
Yeh, it's dirty and such but I come from Virginia and I love to burn wood.

Well, the hours that we keep (wife and I) and the oil heat works good. We use a set back thermostat and I do know people who use over twice as much oil as we do. Remember our heat is on from Oct - May. It is a 6+ month heating season.

My house is 3000+ sq ft so, IMO I am doing good.
