Real Quick Question 96' mercury Force 75hp OB

Hey all got to the ramp this morning and dead battery.... I got home and I'm Hoping my dads's batts are a little dead too. While it's charging I wondered if anyone can tell me if their Volts gauge jumps from zero to 12 when the key is turned to ON (not running) My fuel gauge works and the volt meter goes to 12 but nothing else comes on no fish finder or radio or VHF. I'm charging now but 3 dead batteries ?! Just my luck. Jsut wondering about the volt gauge though and hoping I dont have a boat electrical prob....Thanks !

Your volt gauge is working the way it is suppose to. After starting you should see an increase in voltage. This tells you your charging system is working. Is the rest of your equipment by any chance going thru an accessories switch?
