Hi Guys,
I have a general question for a small outboard , say 5-6 h.p.

Is there any clear cut information on what the most reliable and trouble free outboards are built today?

Would you have less problems with a two stroke or a four stroke?

There are a lot of old evenrude and johnson motors out there that are still running great today. What makes are the best to buy now?

thanks,

Bill

Re: realiability

I think that most outboards built today, especially the small ones, will be very reliable. 2 or 4 stroke is just a matter of what you want to do with it. In a small motor, 2-stroke would be best for maximum power and light weight. 4-stroke would be good for fuel economy and quiet operation, which is nice when doing extensive trolling. I still think Johnson/Evinrude are the way to go for small motors. But Nissan/Tohatsu makes nice reliable small 2 and 4 stroke motors too... Service is a factor, of course...

I smell a troll...

Sorry guys....I am getting more and more skeptical lately...

My best advice for you is to use that big red "SEARCH" button at the top of the page. Then plant your butt with a big bag of Dorito's and read to your heart's content...

Some new old stock Bombardiar/OMC 2 strokes are great.
Four stroke is also a good choice in a Honda this size.
I myself would go with the two stroke this size if your are powering a small utilty boat.

If you are useing this motor as a kicker with long hours of trolling in mind a four stroke will be better.

Went out in my 31 year old 9.9 Johnny yesterday. Ran like new.
