Did anyone see the show Pawn Stars the other night, where the pawn shop bought an 86ish Chris Craft 27 or so feet for 16,500.00 with a few problems?
The owner told them that he had paid 25,000.00 for it a year ago and never had it in the water. So they gave him 16,500 for it and took it to a repair place that fixed the problems for 4000.00 (a fuse, buffed the gelcoat, and replaced a bad hydro pump and tuned the motors).
Then the repair guy told them that they could get 30,000.00 out of the boat.:eek::eek:
I really REALLY want to take my boat there and sell it....:D My 22' starcraft has to worth 8000.00....

I was rolling on the floor laughing the whole time....

I watch the show and find it interesting, it's local and I've driven past the place before.

I should drag my jon boat down there, and see if it will float the boys :D

Did you see the episode where the son bought an air balloon for 30-40K :eek::eek:

I missed that one.

I too like the show, and i like some of the stuff they buy and sell.
It just makes me wonder how bad some of the other things on there they are inflating the prices on.

Ive caught it a few times...
Interesting as I used to "haunt" pawnshops a lot back home..Guns, fishing tackle..guitars and what not..

I loved the one where a tow truck driver hauled away a alum Shelby Cobra shell from a storage facility..not a rolling chassis..just basically the alum body.
He ended up with it after the lein paperwork, then took it to the shop on his flatbed tow truck.
They took it over to a Cobra expert and confirmed it was a true Original Cobra, not a replica but the real deal..I think he sold it to them for 40k!!

I also like when he comments on some guns, but is wrong and gets proven wrong by one of his expert buddies..

Yeah I saw it too and had the same reaction. An 80's glass Chris is NOT rare or collectable as far as I know.

I've noticed no matter what you ask for something they will offer you half.

Thats the going rate. I have taken a couple this in to a pawn shop, They offered half what i wanted and i took them home again.

But then you look at the things that they sell and the price is 95% of new. There is one here in town that i got into every month or so. If i find something that i want i got my neighbor and have them go buy it for half the price. They have known the owners since that went to grade school together. So that helps.

I saw a follow up show on the boat, I think they sold it for $23,000. I believe they had about $20,000 into it after the fixes. Looked like a nice boat, too big for the lake I run.

Its my favorite show for now. As long as they keep it real and not stage it I will watch. The old man is cool.

It's on the History channel... perhaps more than it should be? It is amusing though.

Re: Reality TV. Pawn Stars

So i watched the Marathon of Pawn Stars.
They had the boat listed as one of the "Big Ticket Items" that they had sold in the last year. I cant remember for sure but I think they said they got 25,000.00 for that Chris Craft.
I know its in Las Vegas. And I am moving there in 2011. I am definatly taking my 22' Starcraft. I may sell it there since boats are worth as much as gold.

I may just buy ones from the east coast and take them there and resell them. sounds like the good life to me...:D

I've never seen the show but must say I'm surprised they offered him that much!

Pawn shops USED to be a great place to sell your used stuff. Now with the internet, most places are really savy and you'd be lucky to get half of what you want.

Half of them turn around and sell your stuff on ebay for a huge profit. Which is exactly what I do now:)

Re: Reality TV. Pawn Stars

I hate to tell ya all but it AINT reality, 1/2 of what they do is prob staged (like the shelby episode)

I have been on the set of 2 reality shows and they make it more interesting and drama filled with baloney......like when the guy drove off with the antique toilet chair and it broke apart and hit the ground....he was delivering it to a north las vegas woman supposedly......BALONY they dont deliver little stuff NO WAY! come in and buy it......thats how they work!

still makes for an interesting show! I watch it all the time!
I might have to buzz by there with something interesting to see if I can get on the show lol

did you guys see the one where they had the 1996 Harley the guy wanted 15k they got it for 8k and put 1500 into a paintjob, Im sorry that blue paint job was ugly and they left the tank guage area pink/red UGLY!

the 2 younger guys are IDIOTS!

its amazing how desperate people will take alot less than they really want....

I saw that show too. They only got 22k for the boat, with a profit of only $1500. I think they got LUCKY to get that much!

Yeah, vegasphotoman... go check it out and give us the real skinny on the place!
