I have a pair of 2000 115 Fichts and one has developed a strange problem that I only discovered by accident, if it is left at idle for about 5 minutes (like when flushing) it will rev up to very high RPMS, switch off and restart all perfect, it will run all day at any revs, no drama, and will idle for a few minutes no probs, it only happens at prolonged idle, if you use it in gear or anything else it is OK, this is not a big deal, but, I would like to fix it if possible.

2 things will cause a FICHT to accelerate like that. One is the throttle posiition sensor TPS which can be watched by using the diagnostic software and a laptop computer. Also loose linkage or throttle cable can cause movement of the TPS.

Another problem could be fuel that is getting into the cylinders thru a leaking diaphragm in the fulel pump, usually with fuel residue in the pulse lines. An overflowing vapor separator float valve will send excess fuel into the port intake manifold, which will cause the motor to rev up also.

HI
thanks, I will try and get this checked, kind of odd though that the motor works perfectly if not left at idle, cable and linkage all OK so I guess it must be one of your other suggestions. i only found the problem while I was flushing after a fishing trip and my friend turned up and I got talking to him and left it on longer than normal.

Oh, Can the Diagnostic software be purchsed without being a dealer?? might sort of be handy to have for home checks.
