realtime carb rebuild

i am in the process of rebuilding carbs on 1985<br />70 hp evinrude and i am stuck the and un unclear on manual instructions on how to remove the core plug can someone please help me :eek:

do i realy even need to remove it there is good airflow troughther and no other parts inside chamber

Typically you can use a sharp ice pick to pierce the cap and pry out the plug. Others use a small drill bit (1/8")to drill a small hole and use a small nail to pry out the plug. The only thing to be careful of is not to drill too far. You'll know when you go thru the cap, then stop drilling and pry it out, it's only aluminum. Clean the chamber and replace the cap with new. The convex side of the cap goes up (crown side up). Seal the cap buy placing a flat punch or drift on top of the cap, and hammer until it's flat.
